About Stephen
Ever since high school, I wanted to go to the mission field… I just took the longest way I could find to get there.
I grew up in sunny Florida and along the way during high school, after having the opportunity to participate in mission trips overseas, I found a love of being with others in their culture and being able to see how the love of Jesus can cross over translational and cultural differences. It was during college that I, by complete chance, sat by a pediatrician on a bus in Guatemala who invited me to join him on his work there. I saw how impactful medical work could be and how much it meant to the community and wanted to do the same if possible. Fast-forward 12 years later (I guess realllly fast-forward) after completing medical school, I went to the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, FL for my general pediatrics residency. I fell in love with pediatric cardiology during medical school, but the love only grew further during training and I stayed on board at Nicklaus for an additional three years to complete my pediatric cardiology fellowship. During those three years, I found out about the Samaritan’s Purse Post-Residency Program which helps transition doctors to the medical field. It was a God-given opportunity in that a hospital was looking for a pediatric cardiologist- a perfect fit! And so now I’m looking forward to working alongside the excellent physicians, nurses and many other incredible staff at the Tenwek Hospital to help show God’s love through medical care and allow Him to do His good work.
