Kenyan
hearts

The number of children with heart disease in Africa can appear overwhelming, almost impossible.

But work is being done at Tenwek Mission Hospital to change that in Jesus’ name.

And you can be a part of that change.

NO BROKEN HEARTS

My name is Stephen Girgis and I am a pediatric cardiologist going to join that work over in Kenya.

It is estimated that every year 500,000 children are born in Africa with congenital heart disease - that’s enough to fill the Dallas Cowboy’s AT&T Stadium 6 times over and more.

Rheumatic Heart Disease, a heart condition caused by infection, affects approximately 2-4% of children in Kenya and can be life-debilitating.

In the US, there is 1 heart surgeon for every 140,000 people. In Africa, it may be as low as 1 per 8,000,000 - so a few surgeons have to do the work of many.

it just takes one person to help - and that’s you

  • If you just saw the above statistics or video, you’re probably thinking how can I possibly help? Well, the short answer is, in so many ways!

  • Something as simple as a dollar goes towards covering the cost of a clinic visit and getting families the answer as to why their child or family member is not thriving the way they should. A few more bucks can help fund their medications, heart ultrasounds and other parts of their heart care.

  • If you work together as a group, whether that’s with your church, workplace or wherever, you can work towards funding a life-changing heart surgery for one of these patients, and demonstrate an immense act of love!

  • And most importantly, just your prayers and support for both the patients and staff at Tenwek Hospital is life-changing in itself.

And know that the organization I’m going with Samaritan’s Purse has the highest rating achievable on Charity Navigator - so you can give with confidence.
